Note to self: Don't buy a house next to a prison.

Just ask Jim Lail in Lexington, Ky.

In August, he watched his pickup roll down his long gravel driveway -- stolen. When an officer arrived:

I told him I knew exactly who it was," Lail recalled. "I told him to call Blackburn to see if one of their inmates escaped."

It was the second time a truck has been stolen from Lail, owner of Lail Construction LLC.

Lail lives near the Blackburn Correctional Complex, which this year has the highest number of escapes among the Kentucky's four free-standing minimum security prisons.

Growth has brought residential development within a stone's throw of the prison.

"They've created a situation where it's just a matter of time until someone gets hurt," Lail said.
