My uncle, Clarence Donald "Red" Lail, celebrated his 80th birthday with a family reunion in Bethlehem in Alexander County, NC.

All his living brothers and sisters, his children (Donnie, Karen and Vernon), his grandchild and, of course, his wife, Mary Lou, were there along with lots of other Lail relatives.

Casual Living magazine plans to publish an issue targeted to upscale consumers in three cities this January.

The additional 50,000 copies will be direct-mailed to affluent households in San Jose, Calif., Scottsdale, Ariz., and Miami, the three cities where consumers spend most heavily for outdoor furnishings.

Isom Lail, manager of the South Blount Utility District and a key figure in a fluoridation battle, died Saturday at his home of an apparent heart attack.

He had managed the utility for more than 20 years. Lail's utility chose not fluoridate its water when it opened a new water plant last year.
