Hotel tax revenue declines

The region's poor economy is causing the value of property and equipment at many businesses to decline, which is costing governments in Catawba County hundreds of thousands of dollars. Charlotte Observer, 2/13/2005.

Some beneficiaries of the lower valuations were members of the Lail family, Catawba County commissioner Lynn Lail and her husband, Leroy Lail, who owns Hickory Furniture Mart. The Lails own several hotels in Hickory and Conover.
