A fish tale for Gary Lail and friends

The Charlotte Observer reports that Lake Rhodhiss yeield a surprise for fisherman Fred Sanders and his fishing companions: stepson, Steven Kincaid of Lenoir, and Gary Lail of Valdese.

They hooked a muskellunge.

More associated with Canada than North Carolina, muskie can be found in water bodies in Western North Carolina. They were native to the French Broad River before dying out in the 1940s and 1950s from pollution.

Thomas Lail gets Chancellor's Award

Hudson Valley Community College Associate Professor Thomas Lail of Valatie, N.Y. is one of five recipients of the prestigious State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Excellence for 2006.

The Chancellor's Award recognizes exceptional contributions to the university by its faculty and professional staff.

Lail, a member of the college's fine arts faculty, helped create the associate degree program in fine arts at the college in the late 1990s. Since 2003, he also has been responsible for securing numerous transfer agreements with several of the nation's most prestigious art schools, including the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Savannah College of Art and Design, Montserrat College of Art and Purchase College.
