Zen and the art of carpentry

Some interesting commends by one Jennifer Lail in Seattle, who was quoted in an early January article (sorry catching up) about the Wood Construction Center, a professional technical program offered through Seattle Central Community College.

"This is work that feels more nourishing," said Jennifer Lail, a third-quarter carpentry student who also is pursuing a master's degree in public administration at the University of Washington; she left her career in the non-profit sector to pursue carpentry. "I think that there is a real hunger out there to do something that engages both the body and the spirit."
"There is something so satisfying about working with your hands," Lail said. "This school has offered the most democratic -- with a small d -- learning environment I have ever been in. There have been so many layers of learning."

She's got a point.
