Gamecocks sign Harley Lail

Harley Lail of Lancaster, S.C., has committed to play baseball at teh University of South Carolina.

Lail spent two years at Spartanburg Methodist College, but his goal was to get to Columbia and wear a Gamecock uniform.

"I wanted to play for a top-notch program and it's not too far from home," Lail said. "The chance to play college baseball has been a goal of mine since I was around 10-years-old. I knew if I went to SMC and did well, I would have a chance to transfer to South Carolina."

As the SMC second baseman and leadoff hitter, Lail batted .397 with 13 home runs and 58 runs batted in this season. He also had 13 doubles, 5 triples and scored 62 runs.
